What GNWL indicates
GNWL usually applies when a ticket is booked from the train's originating station or an important station near the start of the route to a major destination.
It is one of the most commonly seen waiting list types, but its movement still depends on cancellations and availability for that train and class.
How to read GNWL numbers
A status like GNWL 12 means the passenger is on the general waiting list at position 12. If the current status becomes RAC or CNF, the ticket has improved.
Do not compare GNWL numbers with RLWL or PQWL as if they are the same queue. Each waiting list category has its own context.
