Train Delay Explained
Train delay is the difference between the planned schedule and the current or expected running time for a specific journey.
What delay means
If a train was scheduled to arrive at 10:30 but is expected at 11:05, it is running about 35 minutes late at that point.
Delay is a live running value. It does not rewrite the train's official schedule.
Why delay changes
Delay can increase or reduce as the train moves. Operational halts, congestion, recovery time, weather and route conditions can all affect running.
A train late at one station may recover time later, or it may lose additional time before reaching your station.
Using delay correctly
Use delay with expected arrival for your station. A general delay number is helpful, but the expected time at your station is usually more practical.
