PNR Status Meaning
PNR status is the current reservation condition of a ticket. It helps you understand whether a passenger is confirmed, RAC, waitlisted or waiting for final chart details.
Booking status and current status
Booking status is the position assigned when the ticket was first booked. Current status is the updated position when you check the PNR.
For example, a passenger may have booking status WL 18 and current status RAC 4. That means the passenger started on the waiting list but has moved up to RAC.
Common PNR status codes
CNF means confirmed. RAC means Reservation Against Cancellation. WL means waiting list. Quota labels such as GNWL, RLWL, PQWL and TQWL explain which waiting list category applies.
The exact meaning matters because different waiting lists may move differently depending on route, quota, cancellations and chart preparation.
Why final status matters
Before chart preparation, a PNR can move from waiting list to RAC or confirmed. After chart preparation, the final travel position is usually clearer.
