- Value
- 135,207 km
Indian Railways recorded 135,207 kilometres of total track in 2023–24.
This figure is significantly larger than the 69,181 km route length because total track kilometres count additional railway tracks separately.
For example, if a railway corridor has two parallel tracks over a distance of 100 km, its geographical route length remains 100 km, but those two tracks contribute approximately 200 track kilometres.
Total track length also reflects additional infrastructure such as multiple lines, station yards and other railway track arrangements.
The distinction between route kilometres and track kilometres is important when comparing the physical scale of railway networks.
