PNR Status Guides

How to Check PNR Status

PNR status tells you the current booking position of a railway ticket. It is most useful when your ticket is confirmed, RAC, waitlisted, or waiting for chart preparation.

What you need before checking

You need the 10 digit PNR number printed on your railway ticket or shown in your e-ticket confirmation. Entering the exact digits matters because the PNR is the reference used to retrieve booking details.

A PNR result usually shows passenger booking status, current status, train details, journey date, boarding station and destination. Some results may also show coach and berth after confirmation or chart preparation.

  • Keep the 10 digit PNR ready.
  • Use the journey date and train details to confirm you are reading the correct booking.
  • Recheck closer to departure if the ticket is RAC or waitlisted.

How to read the status

The booking status is the position when the ticket was booked. The current status is the updated position at the time you check. For example, a ticket may be booked as WL and later become RAC or CNF.

If the ticket is CNF, the passenger has a confirmed booking. Coach and berth details may appear immediately for some tickets, but they are commonly finalised when the reservation chart is prepared.

When to check again

For waiting list or RAC tickets, checking once is often not enough. Cancellations and quota releases can change the current status before chart preparation.

The most important final check is after chart preparation. Once the chart is prepared, the final coach, berth and travel eligibility information is normally clearer.

It can change because of cancellations, quota movement and chart preparation before departure.

Where should I check now?

Use the PNR Status tool on Railopedia and enter the 10 digit PNR exactly as printed.
