Cuttack railway station, a junction of three lines
Cuttack railway station (code CTC), officially Cuttack Junction, serves the city of Cuttack and is one of the busiest railway stations in Odisha. It is in the Khurda Road division of the East Coast Railway, and ranks among the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railways.
Three lines meet at Cuttack
- The Kharagpur–Puri line, towards Kharagpur and Howrah in the north and Bhubaneswar and Puri in the south
- The Cuttack–Paradip line, to the port of Paradip
- The Cuttack–Sambalpur line, west into central Odisha
Built across great rivers
Between 1893 and 1896, the East Coast State Railway built and opened 1,287 km of line. Reaching Cuttack meant building some of the largest bridges of the time, across the Brahmani, Kathajodi, Kuakhai, Mahanadi (Odisha's longest river) and Birupa. Cuttack joined the Indian railway network in the late 1890s. Its neighbouring stations are Kendrapara Road and Kathajori.

More than 200 trains halt at Cuttack, including Rajdhani, Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, superfast, express and MEMU services, with over a dozen originating here. Notable trains include the Coromandel Express, Purushottam Express and East Coast Express, linking the city with Howrah, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
