Kochi's north station
Ernakulam North railway station is officially Ernakulam Town (code ERN), but locals simply call it "North", to tell it apart from Ernakulam Junction, the "South" station. It is one of the two main railway stations of Kochi, belongs to Southern Railway's Thiruvananthapuram division, and is graded NSG-2.
Since 1890
The station opened in 1890, making it older than Ernakulam South. It was rebuilt in 2003, and a second reconstruction began in August 2025, so parts of the station may change during the works.
Small station, heavy traffic
Ernakulam North has only 2 platforms on 4 tracks, yet it handles around 90 trains a day. In 2018–19 it saw about 27,945 passengers a day, and in 2021–22 roughly 10.2 million in the year, ranking ninth in Kerala and sixth in the Thiruvananthapuram division.
