About Jaipur
Jaipur railway station, officially Jaipur Junction (station code JP), is the main station of Jaipur, the Pink City and capital of Rajasthan. It is the headquarters station of the North Western Railway zone and the main station of the Jaipur division. Most visitors to Jaipur's forts and palaces arrive here.
How Jaipur began
Railways reached Jaipur in the 19th century as the network spread across Rajputana, and the city has been an important junction ever since. The present station building is more recent: its cornerstone was laid on 4 May 1956 by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, the last ruling Maharaja of Jaipur, and construction took three years. Over the following decades the lines through Jaipur were converted to broad gauge, and electrification of the routes was completed around 2020.
Lines meeting at Jaipur

- Delhi–Ahmedabad line (double, broad gauge, electrified)

Jaipur's layout
There are 8 platforms, numbered 1, 1A, 1B, 2, 2A, 3, 4 and 5, which can be confusing for first-time visitors. They sit on 16 broad-gauge tracks 428 metres or so above sea level.
Green station
Jaipur has invested in sustainability: a water recycling plant with a capacity of 500 kilolitres a day, a waste-to-energy plant and LED lighting upgrades in 2019. Wi-Fi has been available at the station since 2015.
