Kadapa railway station on the Mumbai–Chennai line
Kadapa railway station (code HX), officially Kadapa Junction, is the main station of Kadapa town in YSR Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. It is in the Guntakal division of the South Coast Railway, on the Guntakal–Chennai Egmore section of the busy Mumbai–Chennai line. It is one of the A-category stations of the zone.
History
Kadapa has had its own station since 1866, well before independence. The Mumbai–Chennai line through it is one of the busiest in the region, carrying trains between Mumbai, Guntakal, Renigunta and Chennai. More recently, Kadapa became a junction with the start of the Kadapa–Bangalore line.
The Kadapa–Bangalore line
Begun on 2 September 2010, this 260.4 km broad-gauge line is meant to connect Kadapa with Bengaluru via Kolar. It is split into four phases:
- Kadapa–Rayachoti
- Rayachoti–Madanapalle
- Madanapalle–Mulbagal
- Mulbagal–Bengaluru
So far the line is operational only as far as Pendlimarri, close to Kadapa.
