Kochuveli railway station, now Thiruvananthapuram North
Kochuveli railway station, renamed Thiruvananthapuram North (station code TVCN, old code KCVL), is a satellite terminal of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. It is an NSG-3 station in the Thiruvananthapuram division of the Southern Railway, developed to take pressure off Thiruvananthapuram Central. Many people still search for and call it Kochuveli.
A terminal for long-distance trains
The station opened in 2005 and was rebuilt in 2022. Trains from here reach a remarkable spread of cities, including New Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Rishikesh, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Sri Ganganagar, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Madgaon. It also handles special trains in busy seasons. Some services from Central, such as the Sabari Express, are planned to start here once development is complete.
Platforms and expansion
Thiruvananthapuram North has 6 platforms on 13 tracks, with a total of 10 platforms planned. Platforms 2 and 3 are now fully operational, a coach care centre is under construction, and a sick-line complex with two pit lines has been in progress. A pedestrian overbridge linking the eastern and western sides is long awaited. Current facilities include a foot overbridge with a lift at platform 4, computerised reserved and unreserved ticket counters, and a public address system.
Getting to Kochuveli
The station is about 1.2 km from the NH 66 Kazhakoottam–Kovalam bypass and 8 km from Thiruvananthapuram Central bus station. KSRTC runs a low-floor AC feeder bus to the city, timed to train arrivals. The nearest bus stop on the bypass is World Market Junction.
