Tenali Junction on the Howrah–Chennai main line
Tenali Junction (station code TEL) is the main railway station of Tenali in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, and one of the busiest in the state. It is administered by the Vijayawada division of the South Coast Railway, having previously been under the South Central Railway. In terms of earnings and passengers it is classified NSG-3.
History
- 1 November 1899: the broad-gauge line between Vijayawada and Chennai opens through Tenali, making through journeys possible between Chennai, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Howrah, New Delhi and Hyderabad.
- January 1916: the Howrah–Chennai main line, built by the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, opens.
- 1979–80: the Vijayawada–Tenali section is electrified.
A junction in four directions
As a junction, Tenali sends trains towards Vijayawada to the north, Gudur to the south along the main line, Guntur to the west and the coastal town of Repalle. Passenger and express trains run round the clock. The Narasapur–Chennai Central Vande Bharat Express (via Renigunta) stops here. North of Tenali lies Vijayawada Junction, and the main line continues south towards Chennai Central.
Tenali's satellite stations
Tenali Junction is the town's main station, but three smaller local stations, Angalakuduru, Chinnaravuru and Kolakaluru, act as satellite stations for nearby areas, mainly served by passenger trains.

The station has been modernised with new escalators and lifts, and automatic ticket vending machines have been installed to shorten ticket queues. As a busy halt, expect crowded platforms at peak times; check your coach position before the train arrives.
