India's First Electric Train – Route & Year | Railway Quiz

Electric railway operation in India began in 1925 with a suburban service between Bombay VT and Kurla.

India entered the electric railway era on 3 February 1925 when the first electric passenger train operated between Bombay Victoria Terminus, now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and Kurla.

Electric traction proved especially suitable for busy suburban operations because electric trains could accelerate more quickly than steam-powered trains.

This historic service became the starting point of a transformation that eventually made electric traction dominant across India's broad-gauge railway network.
