Carmelaram railway station on Sarjapur Road
Carmelaram railway station (code CRLM) is on the Bengaluru–Salem line, in the Bengaluru division of the South Western Railway. It serves Carmelaram, a former village on Sarjapur Road in south-east Bengaluru that has grown rapidly with the city's IT boom. For people living around Sarjapur Road, it offers direct trains to Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Where the name comes from
In 1969, Carmelite priests from Kerala bought land here and built the Carmelaram Theology College. They named the area Carmelaram, meaning "Garden of Carmel". The college celebrated its golden jubilee in 2019, and the station takes its name from the area.
