Introducing Bandra Terminus
Bandra Terminus (station code BDTS, also called Vandre Terminus in Marathi) is one of five long-distance railway termini in Greater Mumbai. It is in Bandra East, close to the Bandra Kurla Complex business district and Mumbai's airport. It falls within the Western Railway zone's Mumbai division.
Why it was built
By the late 1980s, Mumbai Central, Western Railway's historic terminus, was running out of room for new long-distance trains. Bandra Terminus opened in 1992 to take the extra traffic, in the same way Central Railway built Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at Kurla. Its location in the suburbs also means many passengers don't have to travel into South Mumbai to catch a train.
Platforms at Bandra Terminus
The terminus has 7 platforms on 7 tracks, some 4 metres up. A diesel loco shed nearby maintains a fleet of WDS-6 shunting locomotives, with 25 active as of May 2025.
Services from Bandra Terminus
More than 40 long-distance services start at Bandra Terminus, mostly towards the north and north-west. They include the historic Golden Temple Mail (12903) to Amritsar, several Humsafar Express trains, and superfast trains to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Jammu. Golden Temple Mail and Humsafar departures from BDTS are on the train timings page.

Bandra Terminus pointers
- Bandra Terminus (BDTS) and Bandra suburban station (BA) are different stations; long-distance trains do not use the suburban platforms.
- Road traffic around BKC is heavy at office hours; allow extra time.
