Introducing Kacheguda
Kacheguda station (station code KCG) is one of the three major railway stations of Hyderabad, along with Secunderabad and Hyderabad Deccan (Nampally). It is the most architecturally striking of the three. It is part of the South Central Railway zone, within the Hyderabad division.
Kacheguda's history
Kacheguda was built in 1916 during the rule of the seventh and last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan (Asaf Jah VII), when the princely state ran its own railway, the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway. Photographs of the station survive from as early as 1922. After independence, the Nizam's railway became part of Indian Railways. The station's lines were electrified in 2003.
Architecture
The station is known for its Gothic-style building with a central dome, side domes and accompanying minarets, a blend that gives it the look of a palace rather than a railway station.
Rail museum
Kacheguda houses a rail museum with exhibits on the railway history of the Nizam's state and South Central Railway. It is worth a visit if you arrive early for a train.
Inside Kacheguda
The station has 5 platforms on 11 tracks, at a height of roughly 543 metres. Four pit lines are used for primary maintenance of trains that start here.
Who calls at Kacheguda
Several express trains start at Kacheguda, including a Vande Bharat Express to Yesvantpur (Bengaluru) and superfast trains to Madurai and Murdeshwar, along with services to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and other cities.
