Samastipur railway station, gateway to Mithila
Samastipur railway station (code SPJ), officially Samastipur Junction, is one of the busiest junctions in north Bihar. It is the headquarters of the Samastipur division of the East Central Railway, and is often described as a gateway to the Mithila region. Several broad-gauge routes meet here, spreading out across north Bihar.
Its place in the division
SPJ is graded NSG-2. In its division only two other stations share that grade, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. Samastipur also ranks among the top 10 revenue-earning stations of the East Central Railway, which reflects how much long-distance traffic it handles.
Platforms
There are 7 platforms, linked by two foot overbridges. Platforms 3, 4 and 5 are the busiest and are mostly used by long-distance trains, so check the indicator boards early. Lifts have recently been added at both ends of the station.
