Badnera Junction, Amravati's main-line station
Badnera Junction (station code BD) serves Badnera, now part of Amravati city in Maharashtra. It is one of the major junctions on the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line, run by the Central Railway, and it is the last station of the Bhusawal division on the way to Nagpur. City buses connect the station with many parts of Amravati.
Lines at Badnera
History
India's first train ran from Mumbai to Thane in 1853, and the Great Indian Peninsula Railway reached Kalyan in 1854 and Bhusawal by 1860. In 1867 its line was extended to Nagpur, and Badnera opened along it. The railways around Badnera were electrified in 1989–91.
An operational hub
Badnera is a crew-change point for all goods trains on the Bhusawal–Nagpur line, and for some express trains too. Because it is the division's last station, many express trains have slack time built in here, so a train running early may wait here before moving on.
Facilities
The station has a waiting room, retiring room, light refreshment stall and phone booth, and parking is available. It has eight tracks and stands about 301 metres above sea level. Badnera and New Amravati stations both lie within the Amravati Municipal Corporation.
Frequently asked questions
Is Badnera the same as Amravati station?
No. Badnera Junction (BD) is on the main line; Amravati is a 9 km branch from it.
Why do trains wait at Badnera?
It is a crew-change point and the Bhusawal division's last station, so trains often have slack time here.
