Kamakhya Junction, Guwahati's other terminus

Kamakhya Junction (station code KYQ) is a railway junction at Maligaon in Guwahati, Assam, close to the headquarters of the Northeast Frontier Railway. It belongs to the Lumding division and is the second-largest station in Guwahati after Guwahati railway station. It lies on the Barauni–Guwahati line.

Long-distance trains from Kamakhya

Many trains to the rest of India start here rather than at Guwahati:

  • Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and the New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express
  • AC superfasts to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Mumbai) and SMVT Bengaluru
  • Kamakhya–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express and the Brahmaputra Mail to Delhi
  • Kavi Guru Express to Udaipur City, and trains to Gandhidham, Jodhpur, Puri, Ranchi and Gaya
  • Amrit Bharat Express services to Rohtak and Charlapalli

Facilities

Kamakhya Junction has been upgraded with help from the Union Ministry of Tourism. Passengers can use:

  • 10 two-bed AC retiring rooms and separate 10-bed AC dormitories for men and women
  • Upper- and lower-class waiting rooms seating 120, with AC, TV and charging points
  • A vegetarian and non-vegetarian food court and a cafeteria
  • A foot overbridge with escalators and lifts, a cloak room, CCTV and free Wi-Fi

Station facts

Other trains you will see on the departure boards include the Karmabhoomi Express to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, the Northeast Express to Anand Vihar Terminal, the Capital Express to Arah and services to Gomti Nagar and Dr. Ambedkar Nagar.

The station has 12 tracks at about 55 metres above sea level. Its line was electrified on 27 March 2021. Cabs and city buses connect it with the rest of Guwahati.
