Vikhroli station on the Central line
Vikhroli station (code VK) is on the Central line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, run by the Central Railway. It is on Namdeorao Patne Marg in Vikhroli West, in Mumbai's eastern suburbs. The station opened sometime between 1902 and 1907, and its growth is closely tied to one of Mumbai's best-known industrial families.
The Godrej connection
In 1942, Sir Pirojsha Godrej bought the entire village of Vikhroli to set up an industrial township. The station came to serve the Godrej Industries complex, which houses several Godrej factories as well as offices of IT companies such as Accenture, Atos, Capgemini and WNS. The old Godrej railway sidings are credited with being crucial links in conducting India's first general election.
